Pedro J. Morales was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 16, 1961. His parents moved to Puerto Rico when he was three months old. The family settled in Trujillo Alto, where he has always lived. He belongs to a large family, all lovers of plants who have dedicated their lives to agriculture, especially ornamental plants, an area in which Pedro also began as a child.

During his studies in computer programming at the University of Puerto Rico, he began working part-time at Jardín Selecto, where he remained continuously for 36 years, until June 2015. This is one of the largest gardening centers in the San Juan region. Subsequently, from 2017 to 2020, he worked as Director of the Horticulture Department of the Capitol Superintendency. Simultaneously, he maintains his own bonsai nursery, Futago Bonsai, in Trujillo Alto. Currently, he continues as Director of the Ornamental Department of the Superintendency.

In 1980, during his first year at the University of Puerto Rico, his Spanish professor, María Rivera, assigned him the topic of bonsai for a research project. It was then that Pedro met Hugo Storer, with whom he shared his time while preparing the work.

A few years later, he met the Puerto Rico Bonsai Club and became a member in 1986. He began taking classes under the supervision of Mr. Adán Montalvo, considered the great master of Puerto Rico. Pedro continued seeking more information and knowledge, deepening his passion for bonsai. He founded Futago Bonsai Juyku in 1993, one of the most important bonsai schools in Latin America, which has even opened chapters in other countries.

Since then, he has become one of the most talented artists in the tropical world. His achievements include travels throughout Latin America, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, India, Spain, Thailand, Indonesia, Slovakia, Germany, and extensive trips across the United States, acting as a demonstrator, lecturer, and exhibitor. He actively participates in the bonsai movement in Latin American countries, helping to develop its regional groups. He was a demonstrator at four WBFF (World Bonsai Friendship Federation) Conventions: Florida (1993), Munich (2001), Washington DC (2005), and Puerto Rico (2009). He also organized the 2009 WBFF Convention in Puerto Rico.

His trees are recognized as great masterpieces of the tropical world. Eight of them were selected for the World Bonsai Competition, with one chosen as a second finalist in 2005. In January 2015, one of his smaller bonsai won first prize at the Gafu Ten fair in Japan.

As President of the Puerto Rico Bonsai Federation (FEBOPRI), Pedro was proud to host the BCI FELAB Convention in Puerto Rico in July 2007, the World Bonsai Convention in 2009, and the International Bonsai Convention in 2014.
